The Training of Teachers in France for the Public Primary and Secondary Schools From 1875 to 1925

Abstract

It is the purpose of this thesis to trace the historical development of the training of teachers for the public primary and secondary schools in France from the year 1875 to the year 1925. Various outstanding changes that took place in teacher training in France concerning public primary and secondary schools will be accounted for.The scope of this thesis will cover fifty important years of French education, 1875 to 1925. It will give the reader a clearer insight into a typical Nationalistic educational system of Europe. Such a study is of interest, and timely, because Europe is in a state of turmoil and even a cursory glance at most European educational systems will indicate their importance in the national history of the country.
