The Physically Handicapped Dependent Child: A Study of Twenty-Five Physically Handicapped Dependent Children Who on March 31, 1966 Were on Referral to the Department of Child Care, New York Catholic Charities and Brooklyn Catholic Charities for Foster Care Placement

Abstract

Society has been engrossingly concerned about the welfare of its children since the beginning of time in as much as the child is its vested interest for the continuation of Ideals and human species which our ancestors created. This concern is conveyed by parents as well as by society. However a different attitude prevailed in primitive societies where there was a great need to eliminate those children whom society and individual parents conceived of as being undesirable or burdensome. These children incurred a physical handicap which fostered their dependence.
