Abstract

Help for the patient in attaining the state of good health by alleviating social factors interfering with the full value of medical treatment, help in accepting and compensating for limitations, either temporary or permanent, caused by his illness, and help with arrangements for further care or treatment is best attained by a Medical Social Worker who has been trained to carry on such functions. Small communities are daily becoming more aware of the need for Medical Social Service by such workers in their hospitals * Until recently, in towns of under 50,000 population, there have been few Medical Social Service Departments.
