Part 1 of an oral history recorded for the Bronx African American History Project on March 1, 2021 with Peter B., who grew up in the United Workers Cooperative Colony, or the Allerton Coops, located at 2700 Bronx Park East. Peter's father was an African American singer and member of the furniture makers union, and his mother was an Ashkenazi Jew from Ukraine. In this part of his oral history, Peter speaks about his family history and background and his experience growing up in the Coops. The interviewer is Steven Payne, director of The Bronx County Historical Society. The Bronx African American History Project is a community-based oral history project of Fordham University and The Bronx County Historical Society.
