Full of Grace: Faith Journeys of LGBT Catholics Documentary Theatre as Subjective Inquiry for Theological Discourse
Abstract
Full of Grace: Journeys of LGBT Catholics uses the theatrical medium as a catalyst for change and transformation as the theatrical space allows audiences to encounter the authentic voice of committed yet questioning disciples. Just as Christian witness stories give the Christian community insights into God working in the lives of individuals, so the play creates a space for stories of faith and grace from those on the margins. The work seeks to create a dialogue between Church teaching, the personal witness of marginalized members and the community gathered. The synergy of these three may promote a re-estimation of belief among participants. This critical and holy gathering of witness and assembly is a vulnerable space that demands the openness of each participant. In this open vulnerable space truth can be spoken and received and what was once thought settled may seem perhaps fungible. The goal is to demonstrate a valid process of theological reflection for the Church as a whole to learn from the experience of her most marginalized members and develop pastoral practices that respond with sensitivity and openness to those who have been previously ostracized.
