New York City Housing Authority: The Case of NYCHA Lehman Village Houses

Emma Mercer, Fordham University

Abstract

Lehman Village Houses is part of the network of NYCHA developments in New York City. The introduction of public housing in New York City was a notable experiment. The history and progress of Lehman Village is well documented, but this thesis takes a look at both the mission of NYCHA and the accounts of Lehman’s residents as the forage day to day life in the Lehman Development. After examining the purpose and actual genuineness of life in a housing project, we should remain optimistic that the future of Lehman, NYCHA and public housing is general will be sustainable only if policies are focused on this accomplishment.
