A Comparative Study of Reaction Times Under Conditions of Binocular and Monocular Stimulation
Abstract
The use of the reaction time method goes back to the earliest days of psychology and, in fact, precedes the beginnings of experimental psychology proper. One of the earliest applications of reaction time was made by Helmhols (1850) in an attempt to measure the speed of nerve conduction. Although reaction time proved unreliable for this purpose, the use of this technique was continued, mainly in physiological experiments.
