The Symbolism of Paul Claudel
Abstract
Toward the end of the nineteenth century there arose a group of young poets who came to be called "symbolista". The new trend could scarcely be classed as a literary 'school', for the only common element among these writers was their being in some way different. They attacked the very form of versification and each became the advocate of at least one deviation from the previously accepted systems.
