Bessarabia, Balkan Pawn of the Great Powers
Abstract
Like Russian Poland and the Baltic States, Bessarabia was one of those border provinces of the old Russian Empire which took adventage of the Russian Revolution in 1917 to sever its ties with that Empire. Unlike these states, Bessarabia within a few months gave up its independence and declared the province united to neighboring Roumanie.
