A Study of Spermatogenesis in Gryllus domesticus Linnaeus

Joseph Henry McSweeney, Fordham University

Abstract

Cytological studies in the Gryllidae have been few in number (White 1951, Makino 1951). The major portion of the knowledge concern- ing the family has been furnished largely by two groups of workers, those in the early part of the present century, and the modern day Japanese cytologists. Of the two groups, the former worked at a time when cytological studies were in an embryonic stage so that though some of their observations were very accurate, others were highly speculative and often false. The latter group have studied species of Gryllidae which are restricted in their distribution to various areasof the Far East.
