The Effect of Aureomycin on the Sperm and Eggs of the Sea-Urchin, Arbacia punctulata
Abstract
Since the early days of embryological experimentation, the sea-urchin egg has been the subject of numerous investigations. The eggs are easy to fertilize in the laboratory, the egg axis can be seen at an early stage, the eggs can be obtained in large quantities, and are sufficiently transparent to allow observation of larval organization in vivo. It is therefore no wonder that this material was also used with advantage for testing the effects of antibiotics and other chemical compounds on early developmental processes.
