A Cytological Study of Cassia fistula L
Abstract
Polyploid cells are formed during the natural growth process of many diploid plants. This has been found to be true particularly in the Chenopodiaceae and the Legum- inosae. In the Chenopodiaceae, polysomaty was found to be the particular type of polyploidy. This was found to oc- cur in Spinacia oleracia L. (Berger 1941). It was noted that the cells of the periblem were diploid, tetraploid and octoploid. The chromosomes of the tetraploid cells were either paired or unpaired. Polyploid cells are formed throughout the life of the plant.
