Morality and the Newspaper

Nicolas J Russo, Fordham University

Abstract

It is essential for modern society that the press be free from unjust government censorship, from totalitarian restraint, or the encroachment of "big business" as well as the influence of pressure groups. In a democratic na- tion a free press keeps the citizens informed and is a vital weapon for truth in the war of ideas which so often has been waged for the control of men's souls and bodies.
