A Comparison between the Problems in Social Life of Catholic High School Boys in the United States and in French Canada

Abstract

A knowledge of the problems encountered by adolescents in their everyday life is of primary importance for teachers in Catholic high schools. In a speech to Italian teachers, His Holiness, Pope Pius XII said: "To carry out his job fully the teacher worthy of the name must first know his pupils... If you know them well, you will educate them well. You will not misconceive their character. You will come to understand them, knowing when to give way and when to be firm" (Pius XII, 1954, p. 196).
