The Effect of Acetylsalicylic Acid on the Pain Threshold as Determined by Radiant Heat

James P McCauley, Fordham University

Abstract

The measurement of pain received new impetus in 1937 when Hardy and Oppel introduced the use of radiant heat in the production of experimental pain. Since that time Hardy, Wolff, and Goodell have experimented extensively with the new "dolorimeter". A number of lively, sometimes bitter, controversies have sprung up around their publications.
