Relationship Between Level of Aspiration, Academic and Personality Factors Among High School Students

John J. Carboy, Fordham University

Abstract

It was Dembo (12) who first mentioned the German term Anspruchniveau or level of aspiration, as it is literally translated, in his study on the dynamics of anger. The sub- ject was encouraged to make a public declaration of what he aimed to achieve in a certain test situation. According to Horney (36), Freud had made some interesting clinical descrip- tions of the characteristics of experiencing success or failure. Alfred Adler (2), also made some contributions in this direction. Other studies of a qualitative nature have been undertaken by Rosenzweig (51), Dollard (13) and Doob (14).
