The Marquis of Buckingham and the First Ministry of William Pitt, 1783-1801
Abstract
George Grenville, the first Marquis of Buckingham, was born at Stowe, Buckinghamshire, June 17, 1753. His father, the elder George Grenville, is known in history as the head of the Ministry which passed the Stamp Act of 1765; Eliza- beth, his mother, was the daughter of Sir William Wyndham. The Grenvilles had four sons, of whom George was the second, and five daughters. The first son, Richard Percy, died in infancy. Thomas was the third son, and William Wyndham, later Lord Grenville, was the fourth.
