The Priniciples of Harmony in Leibniz

James E Baker, Fordham University

Abstract

Since the turn of the century a considerable advance has been made in Leibnizian scholarship. A succession of finds among the long neglected manuscripts at Hanovre has forced considerable revision in previous interpretations. The first to realize the importance of these manuscripts was Couturat. He discovered among them an amazingly advanced logic, one which by several centuries anticipated almost the whole of modern symbolic logic." In the course of this work Couturat also discovered several manuscripts in which the philosophy of Leibniz was rigidly extracted from his logic."
