The Origins of the Quebec Act in British Politics, 1760-1766
Abstract
In the fall of 1760 two events occurred which were to affect the future history of Great Britain in a pro- found manner. One of these was the death of King George II on October 25. The other was the surrender of the French forces in North America to the British on Sep- tember 8. The French defeat in America led to changes in the field of imperial organization, and contributed to the advent of the American Revolution. The death of George II and the accession of George III led to changes in domestic politics, and contributed to the coming of the modern British party system.
