Deliberatio Domini Pape Innocentii Super Facto Imperii De Tribus Electis
Abstract
Innocent III profoundly believed that the Church should permeate life just as "wine mingles with water." The Church was to become a part of the problems and anxieties of the Christian laity and to guide it to its ultimate end. The head of this Church on earth was the Pope, who was the successor of Peter and Vicar of Christ. This Vicar was the guide of conduct, the expounder of revealed truth, the guardian of the liturgy, and a kind of rightful director of the "conscience" of Europe, a supra-political lord of national and dynastic lords.
