An Investigation of Certain Personality Characteristics of Accepted and Isolate Adolescent Girls

Maureen Mahoney, Fordham University

Abstract

It is undoubtedly a truism that problems are the normal accompaniment of life, for they are found in all its stages of development from, childhood through maturity and into old age. Life itself is a fast-moving process that requires almost continuous adjustment and adaptation. How many problems there are, in what areas they occur, and with what kind of personality structure they are met, make for the distinction between normal everyday living and serious personality disturbance. Consequently, between the two extremes on this continuum lie all levels of adjustment and maladjustment simply because no one ever achieves complete adjustment in every area of life. Somewhere along the line people fail to meet the challenge offered by a new experience and adjust inadequately to the situation, thereby falling victim to some degree of maladjustive behavior.
