The Morphology of Giant Nuclei in the Salivary Glands of Drosophila malanogaster Meigen
Abstract
The nuclei in salivary gland cells of the well developed larvae of many Diptera can be seen both in the living condition and in fixed preparations to be enormously enlarged. The chromosomes of these nuclei are proportionately enlarged. They exist in a rather crowded state as long rope-like structures coiled about each other within the nuclear membrane.
