Description of the Characters in Pliny

Elizabeth Christine English, Fordham University

Abstract

The letters of C. Pliny leave to posterity not only a pleasing account of the life of his times but also a portrait of the writer himself. He himself claims that his letters have not been collected in chronological order, for in his first letter he says,"Collegi non servato temporis ordine (neque enim historiam componedbam) sed ut quaeque in manus venerat."
