A Brief Analysis of M. Maurice Blondel's l'etre Et Les Etres

Heinrich G Wolz, Fordham University

Abstract

M. Maurice Blondel is generally regarded as one of the most outstanding contemporary philosophers in France. Ever since the publication of his thesis in 1893, his philosophy has been the object of considerable controversy. While his early writings have met with a great deal of opposition, it seems that the recently published trilogy, La Pensée, L'ÊTRE et les êtres, L'Action, is being received with increasing sympathy and understanding. In fact, opinions have of late been voiced which seem to suggest a possible reconciliation of his views with traditionally Thomistic thought.
