Educational Work of the American Jesuits in the Philippine Islands
Abstract
After three centuries of loyalty to Spain, the Filipinos hauled down the Spanish flag and raised the banner of their Independence over the Islands. Simultaneously the Philippines became the battlefield of the Spanish American conflict. Despite the peace treaty signed by the United States, after the war with Spain, in 1898, fighting did not cease, for in addition to the islands, America had inherited a revolution. It was not until March 23, 1901 that Aguinaldo, the rebel leader, was captured and guerilla warfare ceased.
