Selections From St. Thomas' "Commentary on the 'De Anima' of Aristotle" Translated

Frederick Joseph Ortner, Fordham University

Abstract

In the "De Anima" Aristotle endeavers to ascertain the nature of the soul, The method which he uses in the field of psychology is the same as he uses in the other departments of philosophy. It starts with particular, discrete data of observation or experience and gradually proceeds to that which is universal. Hence the mathematical method used by the moderns played no part in the construction of Aristotle's philosophy of nature.
