An Experimental Investigation of Feeling and the Relation of Feeling to Imagery

Richard S Ritzel, Fordham University

Abstract

The term "feeling" has, in every day usage, a multiplicity of meanings, we speak of feeling ill, of an individual of delicate feelings, of feeling as synonymous with touch, etc., etc. This varied application has shown its effect in psychology by the development of many so-called multidimensional theories. The majority of psychologists have divided feeling into "pleasure" and "unpleasure", but a few have insisted upon analyzing "tension", "relaxation" and the like into fundamental classifications in conjunction with the basic terms of "pleasure" and "unpleasure".
