The Character and Accomplishments of the Emperor Claudius: A Study Based on the Literary Sources and Inscriptions
Abstract
Even an age, which, in the main, directs its attention to the study of comparatively modern figures prominent in the political and social sphere, will be interested in the life of the Emperor Claudius, who, though somewhat dimmed by time and by some ancient chroniclers, still looms through the fog of many centuries as a character of eccentricity and a man of achievement. Moreover, the life experience of Claudius, which was so diverse and strange that the lives of other Roman emperors are but simple chronicles, is captivating to the last degree.
