Aspects of the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland

Elizabeth Mary Winters, Fordham University

Abstract

To ascertain, to correlate, and to evaluate the historical facts from which the study of modern Ireland may be oriented, are the leading aims of this survey. Accepting the period of the English Parliamentary Supremacy (1649 1660) as the principal source whence modern Irish life has received direction, this thesis concerns itself mainly with the significance of the Puritan control, as impressed and maintained during the years 1649 - 1660; hence the title, "Aspects of the Cromwellian Settlement of Ireland".
