Essays on Employment, Job Search, and Retirement
Abstract
This dissertation studies labor market issues that older workers face using life cycle partial and general equilibrium models. In the first essay, I study informal employment across European countries. In the second essay, I study Social Security reforms and show new labor market channels that are in effect when reforms take place. In the third and final essay, I study hiring and wage subsidies intended to increase older worker employment and analyze their general equilibrium effects. All essays contained in this dissertation highlight a few of the issues that older workers face and propose innovative new methods to analyze fiscal and labor market policies.
