Abstract

According to the opinlion of some scientists and accepted by Maspero the Nile delta was formed from twenty to seventy thousand years ago. Originally the route ran between two mountain ranges - the Sylvian hills on the west and the Arabian Mountains on the East, which were seperated by a mean distance of fifteen miles.Markings on these mount ains have convinced scientists that at One time the river covered the entire valley.Gradually in pursuance of geologic laws the bay was filled in.Ag the sediment became higher and more firm a triangular delta of rich alluvial soil resulted.Through this delta the Nile emptied into three larger mouths-the Canopic(Roselta)the Libernytic, (Dalmatian),and the Pelusiac and numerous smaller ones.
