A Comparison of Word Frequency in Nine Issues of the Periodical "America" With the Thorndike Word List as a Partial Basis for a Catholic School Vocabulary
Abstract
This list has been prepared for the purpose of determining what basic vocabulary is needed to fit a person for the intelligent reading of Catholic literature, such as is found in "America", a leading Catholic weekly. This periodical is representative of the type of literature that appeals to the better-educated classes. The reading matter is multi-phased, treating topics of general, national and international interest. A glimpse at the table of contents of any issue will be convincing.
