Abstract

The problem in this study centers on a critical analysis of the literature dealing with the· methods of educating the gifted child in the elementary school. The problem has these aspects: (1) to find the literature in educational periodicals and books that deals with the education of the gifted child on the elementary school level; (2) to determine into what categories such literature can be divided; (3) to discover the worth of such literature in the light of a critical analysis; (4) to show what trends, if any, in the methods of educating the gifted child are brought to light by an analysis of the literature over the period limited by the scope of this study; (5) to find out what methods, on the elementary level, are suggested for the education of the gifted child; and (6) to discover what problems are involved in that education.
