State Department Regulation of Private Elementary Schools

M. Clarissa Doyle, Fordham University

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the kind and extent of state department regulation of private elementary schools in the various states of the United States. The work is chiefly concerned with written state department regulations affecting private elementary schools, but regulatory practices which exist in the states will also be included so that a more complete presentation of state department regulation of these private elementary schools may be given. These regulatory practices are statements of actual state department private elementary school relationships existing in the absence of written regulations in view of the fact that state school laws relating to private elementary schools are either vague or non-existent.
