A Study of the Constancy of Individuals' Responses to the Garretson-Symonds Interest Questionnaire and a Comparison of the Constancy of Response to the Various Items of the Questionnaire

Mary Ellen Van Eastern, Fordham University

Abstract

Proper educational and vocational adjustment demand that the interests as well as the intelligence of individuals shall be considered. Progress in the measurement of interest has lagged far behind the advances made in the measurement of intelligence. The very extensive research on the constancy of the Intelligence Quotient has been devoted to the determination of the extent to which a measure of an individual’s brightness made at one time will resemble a later measure of his brightness, but very little attention has been given to the determination of the extent to which a measure of an individual’s interests secured at one time will be related to a measure of his interests secured at a later time.
