The Influence of Virgil on English Humanists

Anna O'Brien, Fordham University

Abstract

It is not my purpose in this dissertation to attempt to trace, even in the most summary manner, the influence of Virgil on literature and education through twenty centuries. That would be a task requiring a lifetime of study and research, and one to which volumes would have to be devoted. I have, therefore, confined myself to tracing his influence during that period in English history when Humanism was at its height.
