Home Relief: A Comparative Study of General Assistance in Alabama, Arizona and New York
Abstract
This study deals with the public welfare provisions of several states in the United States in assisting the needy people who do not ordinarily qualify for help under one of the State-Federal public assistance programs. General assistance is the term most frequently applied to this category. It includes programs variously referred to as "home relief", "temporary aid", "emergency relief", "outdoor relief", or "direct relief".This program is operated for those persons who are in need, however, this is the only category of assistance that is not federally aided, and is financed entirely by states and localities alone.
