Adolescent Girls: A Follow-Up Study of Six Patients Who Received Group Psychotherapy at the Mount Carmel Guild Guidance Institute During 1964
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the social functioning of six adolescent girls who received psychotherapy as a group during 1964 at the Mount Carmel Guild Child Guidance Institute. I had intended to study all the girls, in this group which consisted of ten patients, but only six of the subjects responded to the letter. The subjects who responded to the letter range in age from fifteen to nineteen years of age. This study sought to discover the following: (1) the change in the subject’s adjustment in the areas of family relationships, social relationships, and emotional stability after group psychotherapy, and (2) the relationship between the subject’s attitude toward group psychotherapy and her verbal responsiveness in the group sessions.
