Abstract
Among the discoveries made by Maria Montessori in her lifetime efforts to improve the education of children, was the astonishing revelation, astonishing at that time anyway, that children preferred work to play. it was of great interest for this particular study to note that Dr. Montessori discovered this concept while working with the group of poor children from the slums of San Lorenzo, Italy.
