Mario Santamaria, Fordham University

Abstract

In an area of dysfunction so serious and so extensive as mental retardation it is an important function of the helping disciplines to conduct studies which seek greater comprehension of the affliction while testing techniques for the treatment of the afflicted. Such a study has been the group therapy program and demonstration project of the Mental Retardation Clinic of FlowerFifth Avenue Hospital in New York City which began in 19^9 and which sought specifically to evaluate the effectiveness and methodology of a modified form of group therapy as a mode of treatment for female adolescent retardates and their parents.
