Abstract

My current field placement is the Social Service Bureau, New York City Department of Relocation, West Side Urban Renewal Project. This thesis is concerned with the use of aggressive casework techniques in an agency such as this, dealing primarily with the urban poor, who often do not respond to traditional agency techniques. The agency and its staff are committed to enabling the clientele to move toward enhanced social functioning. This thesis will study what the workers do beyond the employment of traditional agency methods.
