Sponsor Parents: A Study of Thirty-One Sponsor Couples Nineteen of Whom Are Interested in Becoming Foster Parents and Twelve of Whom Are Not Interested in Becoming Foster Parents, and All of Whom Have Served as Regular Sponsors From September 1967 to January 1968

Abstract

What is a child? He is a creature composed of body and soul, a human person with rights and responsibilities, made to the image and likeness of God. The natural setting for his nurture is in the most holy and inviolable institution, namely, the family, wherein he is the fruition of the love of spouse for spouse. Because of his innate de- pendency and his extreme vulnerability to all and any influences the child requires care for a number of years before he can move out of the family and into the community on an independent basis.
