A Failure in Community Organization: The Attempt of the Co-Ordinating Community Council of Long Beach, New York, to Organize the West End Sector
Abstract
This dissertation will study the failure of the Co-Ordinating Community Council of Long Beach, Inc. (Long Island, N.Y.) to organize the West End Sector of this city. This council is locally known as the Can-Do Center and was recognized as the official anti-poverty agency of Long Beach on March 22, 1966. In its effort at neighborhood organization in this sector during the summer of 1966, an organization was created which is currently known as the West End Neighbors. However, this organization has been completely antagonistic toward the Council virtually since its inception.
