Casework in Family Groups Where There Is a Mentally Defective Person

Ernest D Ficco, Fordham University

Abstract

This research radiates the increasing interest of this particular social worker in mental defective children living in their own home. During the course of his professional education for the practice of social work, the writer has had an opportunity to do social casework with mentally defective individuals in connection with a field work placement in casework in a family agency. The agency within which this study is placed is the Division of Family Service, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, Bronx Division. The history and organization of Family Service of Catholic Charities has been treated in previous studies, therefore, the author will not attempt to duplicate this work, but rather will mention merely the function of the agency.
