A Survey of Mobility Incorporated, a Rehabilitative Out-Patient Center in Westchester County

Abstract

Medical Science has been making its contributions to the rehabilitation of the handicapped from the beginning of history. Yet it was only four years ago that recognition was given to the fact that a most important determination must be made in the case of every disabled person. That determination is the answer to the above question. Since physique is one of the three principal raw materials of personality, such as being strong or weak, tall or short, handsome or ugly, are important factors in personality formation, clearly, the pathological variations of physical disability are likely to be even more potent. Physical defect has a unique, personal, and deep unconscious significance for the disabled person. Happiness and sound adjustment are dependent upon one's ability to be self-sufficient, to care for one's loved ones and to attain recognition and make one's mark in life.
