A Study of Three Series of Foster Parent Group Meetings Sponsored by the New York Foundling Hospital

Abstract

For those children who must leave their own homes, foster family care offers the most favorable conditions for normal development. It is the purpose of child placement agencies to offer a child an experience in family living and to help strengthen its own family relationships so that the child may some day return to its own family. Child-placement then, represents to the foster parent the fact that she is helping a child by providing a family experience in which the child may have an opportunity for normal growth and development. The activities of an agency providing foster care should be geared to give status and recognition to the foster parents both as a means of making foster care understood and also of utilizing more fully all the strengths of the foster parent.
