Abstract

The writer of this study believes that the history of the Kennedy Center and its sponsoring organization, Parents and Friends of Mentally Retarded Children of Bridgeport, Incorporated demonstrated the development of this concept of the mentally retarded as a part of the community people. The founder of the organization felt the need for services for retardates in the community and the community was ready and could offer and support such services.
