Abstract

This is a case study of five alcoholic mothers known to and active with the New York State University Alcohol Clinic in Brooklyn, New York, in January of 1962. The study was made in order to ascertain how these women had been able to rear their children in the home despite their problem of alcoholism. The focus in this study was on the strengths which they could present as mothers, and on the strengths which they were able to utilize in their immediate environment and their communities to rear their children.
