Abstract
The public school in the United States today has be- come a powerful and significant social institution. where else on earth and at no time in history has any country developed such an elaborate system of education open to all persons regardless of race, creed, religion or social class. Every child living in the United States today has the right to a free education and our compulsory attendance laws see to it that no child is deprived of this right without a sufficient reason.
