Temporary Shelter Care: A Social History of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary With Emphasis on the Mcmahon Memorial Temporary Shelter and Divine Providence Shelter, 1937-1952

Abstract

Temporary Shelters will always be a necessary part of an adequate child program; although accentuated in War and Post War Eras, the conditions necessitating temporary shelters, nevertheless exist at all times. Sudden catastrophes in the family, confinement of the mother in a hospital or convalescent home and the trend toward less family and relative responsibility are a few among the multitude of reasons which indicate the need for shelter care of children.
